Hyères we go again!
July 18 th 2019 - 12:07
The fifth and final Coastal Raid of the Tour Voile 2019 is set to kick off at 12.30 with the race course located, for the 11th time in the history of the event, in the bay of Hyères. Sunshine and blue skies prevail, of course, in this renowned Mediterranean seaside resort, but winds are set to be light and fairly shifty with the possibility of the 40-mile course being shortened if necessary.
The Diam 24 one-design boats will sail around a picture postcard course, passing by the dazzling beaches of the islands of Porquerolles and Port-Cros as they go. They will be more concentrated, however, on harnessing the afternoon’s thermal breeze – a good reading of which will be key to success today.
No sooner was racing finished yesterday than teams were on the road once again, leaving Port Barcarès for the transfer to one of France’s sailing Meccas, and fatigue is certainly now a factor for the 23 teams. Tired or not, no one can afford to take their eye off the ball in this penultimate Act of the multi-leg circuit. Every race and every point counts in the battle for a place in the Super Final in Nice on Sunday.
Team Beijaflore, heading the the General Classification, are the only crew to have won two of the four previous coastal races on the Tour and will be looking to deliver today in order to increase their lead as much as possible. Also looking to shine, and come back from an unfortunate day of breakages and failure to qualify for the final yesterday, will be the locals of Team Reseau Ixio – Toulon Provence Mediteranee.
