Eyes on the prize

Day 2 in a hot and sunny Hyères and a chance to rack up some crucial points before the Tour Voile caravan moves on to its final destination in Nice. As always the teams will need to perform well in today’s qualifying rounds in order to progress to the afternoon’s Nautical Stadium Final where the top eight boats will do battle for the maximum points on offer. With ten points separating leaders Team Beijaflore from Cheminées Poujoulat in second, bar some major upset these two look destined to duel right to the finish - where the Top 10 boats will fight it out in a single race in Sunday’s Super Final.
Behind them Réseau Ixio – Toulon Provence Méditerranée and the young pretenders of Golfe du Morbihan Breizh Cola contend third place and, in an interesting development, the two professional teams from the Sail Oman programme are now sitting on equal points in fifth and sixth place. If Stevie Morisson’s Renaissance Services qualify for the final it will be their sixth out of eight held, whereas EFG Private Bank Monaco, skippered by Pierre Pennec, has only made the cut twice, but did bring home a victory – just ahead of Renaissance - in the most recent Final in Port Barcarès.
The ladies of La Boulangère, leaders of the Mixed classification, have never made a secret of their ambitions to make the Top 10 on this Tour. Sitting just outside in 11th place, they too will be particularly focused on gaining a place in the final in Hyères.
A light thermal breeze is expected to fill in for the start of the qualifying races at 11.30, with the Final kicking off at around 16.00 CET.
