Winds of change- The Renaissance of Oman

Today, everything seems to be new on the Tour de France à la voile. The sea first, for we are in the med, the wind wich is still shifty but stronger than in the Atlantic and the teams that took advantage of theses changes to claim their new ambitions.

ETAPE PORT CAMARGUE

Four races today, no less. The arrival in Port-Camargue on the Mediteranean sea was for sure very busy. The boat were back in the water yesterday after crossing the south west of France on trailers. Just a few hours to polish the hull and it is time to work on the rig again. The first race of the day was a practice race. And the winner was… Courrier Dunkerque, ranking second overall. Maybe they wanted to send a message to the leader. Now it’s done but it’s a pity it was just a practice race. For the team from Dunkerque was not so good for the next races, and theses were for real ! The two winners of the day are TPM Coych from Hyeres and Oman sail’s Renaissance. The boat skipped by Rob Greenhalgh had a very good day, making third, first an fourth in the three « real » races of the day. So they jump in the overall ranking to the fourth. Good move, it seems that the Med had inspired the omani boat : « It was difficult condtions you never knew wich way was going to pay, it was all about being consistent explained Rob Greenhalgh. But we sailed very smart, we were going really fast. ». The Omani boat had to face a long and hot day and nearly ran out of water, but the partly omani crew is of course used to this heat.
Eventualy, the other fast boat of the day was TPM Coych. They did two bullets and they might even have done better if a fishing vessel hadn’t cross their way when going upwind in the second race. TPM Coych stands now firmly in the top three and may look for better. In the student ranking, Team Safran is the new leader. Good news, we had some changes today and it is going to last until the final day. Stay tuned !
